Often, reading isn’t just about reading academic articles and the news. We have to read signs and warnings, messages and exclamations. Today, we’ll take a look at decoding written information with the help of visuals.
Incidental Comics Reading
Grant Snyder is an artist, illustrator and writer, and many of his comics are freely available on the website Incidental Comics. I wholeheartedly recommend Incidental Comics to all my students as it can be a great way to think, laugh and learn new vocabulary and phrases, all the while looking at beautiful images.
Today, I’d like to focus on a more recent comic called Thinking About Infinity.
Take a look at it, look up any words and phrases that are unfamiliar, and then try to write an answer to one of the prompts below.
1- Choose one frame (or one pair) from the comic and analyse its meaning, taking into account the choice of words and visualisation.
2- Suggest some more phrases and vocabulary related to infinity that you would add or use.
3- Look up the pronunciation and word stress of the words infinite and finite. Using this information, come up with a reason why they are pronounced in different ways.
