Vulcan Rocket Launch

Today, there was a launch of the Vulcan Rocket. In your practice, you’ll watch (or at least listen to) a short clip from the launch. Sometimes, you may struggle to hear and understand every single word in a situation. You need to train your brain to use other information that you can get to help you. This is what you’ll practise today.

Listening for Specific Information

Open the video and watch it once. Then, try to answer the following three questions in as much detail as you can. If you’re not sure what to answer, watch it again and try to use the context and the visual cues to help you.

1. What do the terms ‘ignition’ and ‘liftoff’ mean? Do they have different meanings in different contexts? Try to list as many as you can think of. You can also check a dictionary.

2. Where is the rocket going?

3. What does the presenter announce right at the end? What is he referring to?
